Child-Centred Play Therapy (CCPT)
Play Therapy is an evidence-based, trauma-informed method of psychotherapy for children aged 3-10 years of age. It supports a child's emotional and psychological well-being. At PlayhouseOT, we believe in the power of play as a means of communication and healing for children facing various challenges (this is also where the evidence sits!). Oftentimes children can find it difficulty to find words and reasons to express how they're feeling, particularly when they are feeling scared or worried. We often see these children seeking different outlets such as play and behaviours to explore and share with us what is going on for them. The child's behaviour is a symptom of what is going on in their inner world. Through play therapy, we can support the child to achieve their potential for inner growth and healing to gain more of a sense of balance control in their lives.

Child-centred play therapy utilizes the therapeutic powers of play and the art of the therapeutic relationship to enhance a child's social, emotional, and mental well-being through a child-led approach. It embodies a non-directive approach, drawing upon the inherent therapeutic capabilities of play to facilitate communication, bolster personal strengths, enrich social relationships, and promote emotional wellness. CCPT is a weekly intervention where the child comes into the playroom which is full of carefully curated play materials. This type of therapy supports the child to 'play out' their life experiences and different concerns in an attempt to begin developing mastery over it. It is child counselling.
