Is Play Therapy right for my child?

Play therapy is an evidence-based well-regarded intervention suitable for addressing a range of concerns including;

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Significant life events/changes

  • Social communication difficulties

  • Poor self-esteem/self-confidence

  • Grief and/or loss and/or trauma

  • Family separation

  • Difficulties with self-regulation

What benefits might we see as a result of Play Therapy?

  • Emotional expression 

    • Play Therapy is a natural outlet for children to express and communicate their emotions, even when they may struggle to articulate them verbally.

    • ​Play Therapy allows a release of feelings such as anxiety, anger, sadness, or confusion in a safe and constructive manner. 

  • Self awareness and insight​

    • Play Therapy supports us to g​ain a better understanding of the child's thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. They develop self-awareness and insight into their experiences, enabling them to navigate challenges, resolve conflicts, and develop healthier coping strategies.

    • ​Play Therapy supports the child to learn to identify and manage their emotions, leading to increased resilience and the ability to handle life's ups and downs more effectively. 

  • Problem solving and decision-making

    • ​Play therapy encourages children to use their imagination, creativity and problem-solving skills. They learn to make choices, negotiate, and find solutions, fostering their cognitive and social development.

    • ​Play therapy promotes a sense of empowerment and builds self-esteem. As children engage in sessions and experiences the therapists full acceptance, understanding and support, they develop a positive self-image and a stronger sense of their own abilities.

    • Throughout the therapeutic relationship with out trained play therapists, children learn to trust, connect, and develop healthier relationships. The experience can positively impact their interactions with peers, family members, and other significant individuals in their lives.

What age range do you see?

At PlayhouseOT we work with children aged 3-10. If your child falls outside this age range but you believe Play Therapy or Occupational Therapy could benefit them, please don't hesitate to get in contact. 

 

How do I refer to Play House?

You can refer yourself or have someone refer you to PlayhouseOT. Simply send us an email or fill out our 'message us' link on the website and we will get back to you.

Fees​​

Please email admin@playhouseot.com.au for a copy of the current fee schedule. We see privately paying clients, NDIS clients (Self and Plan managed).
